Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and the need to mitigate its spread, the Band Committee has suspended all Youth and Senior Band rehearsals until further notice. We will endeavour to restart rehearsals as soon as we are advised it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we encourage all players to practice at home whenever they can.
George Thorburn
Sorry to hear of the recent death of Band stalwart, George Thorburn. Here is a photo of him and the Band with the Edinburgh Charities Cup for the best 4th section band following a Band Contest in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on 1st December 1973 – this is arguably one of the Band’s better results when we were placed 6th overall and beat many bands in the 2 sections above us.
Well done, George – you will be fondly remembered and missed by us all.

Festival of Remembrance Great Success
Peebles Burgh Silver Band are very pleased to announce that we raised over £1,800 for The Royal British Legion Scotland (Legion Scotland) following our very successful Festival of Remembrance Concert in the Old Parish Church, Peebles last Wednesday. These monies will go towards Legion Scotland supporting ex-services men and women and their dependants throughout Scotland.
Thank you – our special guests, the people of Peebles and indeed Peeblesshire and beyond, for filling the Church and giving us your support. The Concert was emotional but very well received by everyone present and special mention and thanks must go to the following for their help in making the Concert such a success:
Rev Calum Macdougall and his Kirk Session for the use of the Church; Alasdair Hutton compèreing the Concert in his usual immaculate fashion; Our guest musicians from St Ronan’s & our local Pipe Bands (Peebles Ex-Servicemen’s, Tweedvale & West Linton & District);
Our singers from InChorus and the Musical Theatre Group under the baton of Aly Skidmore and to all the Standard Bearers and those forming the Muster which all went to create a great atmosphere within the Church.
Thanks also to Al Macfarlane, Kirsty Davidson, Sarah Brown plus four Elders all from the Church for their contribution and help in making the Concert such a success.
We are also grateful to John Swanson who has very kindly prepared a DVD of the concert. These will shortly be available for sale at a cost of £10 each. Should you wish to purchase a copy then please contact secretary.pbsb@gmail.com. All proceeds from DVD sales will be split between PBSB and Legion Scotland.
